The Common App is spreading across the state of Florida! More than half of the twelve public universities in Florida accept the Common App, and nearly all of the private, 4-year colleges and universities here do.
In the past, most of the universities that accepted the Common App were small, liberal arts colleges. For most Florida families, the Common App was of limited usefulness, since many students in Central Florida and throughout the state only consider Florida public universities – like Florida State University, the University of Florida, the University of Central Florida, etc.
The Common Application (often abbreviated to “Common App”) is an online application system. Students complete the full college application on the Common App website, refer their teacher and counselor recommenders to submit on the Common App website, and then – this is the cool part – the single Common App will be submitted to as many universities as the student selects. Any university that partners with the Common App, and is chosen by the student, will then receive the student’s application. The Common App is free to students. (Students still have to pay a separate application fee for each university they send the Common App to.)
The Common App has a lot of value for any family that is considering more than one university, and it’s especially useful for anyone applying to a lot of universities – so long as those universities accept the Common App!
Here are all of the Florida universities that are accepting the Common App during the 2018-19 application season:
